Education
In May 2021, I became a Fellow (FHEA) of AdvanceHE, a member-led, sector-owned charity dedicated to enhancing higher education for staff, students, and society worldwide. Additionally, in 2016, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Education (Tertiary Teaching) at Federation University Australia (formerly University of Ballarat). These two qualifications underscore my commitment to continual improvement in my learning and teaching practices within higher education.
I earned my Doctor of Philosophy in 2009 from Federation University Australia. My thesis, ‘Topology of interconnection networks with given degree and diameter’, was supervised by the late Prof Mirka Miller at Federation University Australia. In 2002, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with first-class honours from the University of Oriente, Santiago de Cuba. My thesis, titled ‘Design of a module for the implementation of geographic information systems’, was conducted under the supervision of Dr Roxana Danger-Mercaderes.
Work Experience
Starting January 2024, I am an Associate Professor in Computer Science and Mathematics at Deakin University, Australia. Previously, from June 2019 to December 2023, I served as a Senior Lecturer in the same fields at Deakin University. Earlier, in July 2013, I began a tenured Lectureship (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in Mathematics at Federation University Australia, advancing to Senior Lecturer from January to June 2019.
Between February and July 2013, I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel), under Prof Eran Nevo and Prof Mikhail Klin. Prior to this, from January 2009 to February 2013, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow under Prof John Yearwood and a Lecturer (Assistant Professor equivalent) in Mathematics at Federation University Australia. My earlier career, from 2002 to 2003, involved working as a Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Information Sciences (Cuba), and from September 2003 and July 2008, I held a Lecturer position (Assistant Professor equivalent) in Mathematics at the University of Oriente (Cuba).
